Like seat belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes before them, new technology on the horizon will increase safety, lower accident rates, and decrease insurance premium rates.
1. Autonomous vehicles
Autonomous cars will be driving themselves, reducing driver-error accidents by taking much of the driving out of our hands. Google Glass technology being advanced by Mercedes-Benz and others will offer the ability to program our route from beginning to end before we leave our home.
2. Collision-avoidance systems
This technology will include forward collision avoidance capabilities that are automatically engaged. The car will sense danger and apply the brakes and tighten your seat belt.
3. Assisted driving systems
Here the vehicle also senses driver tendencies and patterns, correcting errors such as lane violations. This technology will also monitor cruise control in relation to the surrounding traffic. It will automatically adjust the cruise control to eliminate tail-gaiting and other dangerous situations.
These technologies will enhance driving safety and reduce the number and seriousness of vehicle accidents, which will reduce the number and severity of injuries and property damage. This will lower claims costs, thereby lowering your premiums.
