5 Tips To Keep Your Car on the Road for 10 Years

    By Young Insurance | Auto | Comments are Closed | 7 February, 2014 | 0

Would you like to know 5 tips that will help keep your car driving on the road for 10 years? It begins with a wise car purchase, obtaining the extended warranty, scheduling preventative maintenance, checking fluids, and checking your speed as you drive your car.

    1. Purchasing a dependable car is the first step in promoting the longevity of your car. Some makers have better reputations than others. Some people feud over which is better: Ford or Chevy? Whatever you choose, the model and the brand should be researched before a final decision is made.

    2.  The extended warranty is a gift you provide yourself later, when your vehicle has been great, but is growing closer to the ten year mark. Even when the car has been very well taken care of and maintained, parts can break and the extended warranty will cover large expenses. The warranty provides the service your car needs without a heavy price tag for you. Purchasing the extended warranty is definitely worth considering.

    3. Preventative maintenance is a check-up for your car. When your car is regularly maintained, it will be kept running smoothly, and when your tires have the right amount of air, your wheels are aligned, and your brakes are good, your car is expected to have a minimum of a tenth birthday.

Battery fluid will be checked as well as the engine’s timing belt.  Battery fluid should be checked four times per year and the timing belt should be replaced every 100,000 miles. Everything has its own time frame for maintenance frequency, so you’ll want to gain knowledge to increase the lifespan of your car.

    4.  Checking and maintaining fluids is vital to the workings of your engine. You will need to check your oil, coolant, power steering, transmission, and your brake fluid in a timely fashion. Fluids should be flushed at certain intervals, and oil should be changed every 5,000 miles.

    5.  Maintain proper speed on roadways. Driving hard puts more wear and tear on your car. It is much better for your vehicle if you handle it carefully, especially on highways or going near potholes. The faster you drive, the faster your car guzzles gas so watch your speed.

Regular car maintenance is the reason that a vehicle will outlast others that are the same age.  When you care for your car, it remains in good “health” for the duration of its ability to drive.
