What You Need to Know About Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System

    Tire Pressure Tips

If any of your warning lights on your dashboard light up, it is not something to be ignored. Warning lights are meant to alert you to an issue with your vehicle to help better protect your vehicle. One of the most important warning lights is your Tire Pressure Monitoring System, or TPMS.
TPMSs are required in all vehicles that were built in 2008 and after. It is important to keep in mind that the light is not required to light up until your tires are 25 percent below the manufacturers recommended pressure, which is significantly under inflated. You can find the manufacturers recommended pressure on the inside door jamb of the driver’s side door.
TPMS regulations were put into place to warn drivers that their tires are close to failing, not that their car is unsafe to handle. Having low tire pressure in your tires can be enough to cause your vehicle to hydroplane in a very small amount of water, which can mean disaster while on the road.
If you see that your tire inflation light has come on, make sure to fix the issue as soon as possible. If you do not have an air compressor at home, many gas stations have tire filling stations that include a pressure gauge. You can also take your vehicle into a dealership to get your tires refilled. If you notice that your TPMS light is coming on regularly, it might be a sign of a more serious issue that should be checked out. Make sure to alert your mechanic to the issue.
Having the right auto insurance policy can help to make sure that you stay safe while on the road. Contact the insurance professionals at Young Insurance in Burbank, California for all of your car insurance coverage needs.
