Prepare for your Thanksgiving drive with these tips.
The holiday season is fast approaching, and that means that many of us will be on the move. Whether you’re heading out of town to visit family, get away from the daily grind, or celebrating with friends, travel can turn our long holiday weekend into a disaster. Take a look at these tips that can help make your Thanksgiving drive an enjoyable one.
Take time off work – If possible, leave work early so that you can get a head-start on the journey. Wednesday and Sunday are the busiest times to travel, so cashing in on some holiday time to drive outside of these times can mean you’re in for a smooth ride.
Take your car in for a check-up – Before you leave, make sure your vehicle is up for the drive. Schedule a check-up so that your local mechanic can spot any issues that may arise, especially if you’re putting serious miles on the clock. A healthy car can prevent an unexpected breakdown and make your trip more enjoyable.
Leave a safe following distance – Even when there are more cars on the road and even when you’re driving at low speeds, it’s important to leave at least a three-second gap between you and the vehicle in front. When driving in harsh weather conditions, double the following distance to six seconds.
Avoid distracted driving – Set up your GPS before you leave so that you aren’t distracted by it during the journey. Avoid picking up your phone, fiddling with the radio, or getting distracted by the kids in the back!
