The perfect holiday recipe!
This dessert is a holiday staple! From gingerbread men to gingerbread houses, gingerbread is a Christmas-time favorite. But often gingerbread houses are so intricate that it seems as if the average joe is unable to partake in the holiday fun. This gingerbread cookie recipe is simple and easy, and, of course, fun for the whole family! Here’s what you’ll need to get started.
Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup margarine, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons white sugar
Start by preheating the oven to a toasty 350 degrees. In a medium-sized mixing bowl thoroughly mix the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Once done, go ahead and set your mixture aside.
Next, mix together the margarine and sugar in a large bowl. Keep mixing until fluffy. Then add the eggs, water, and molasses.
Now it’s time to mix in the dry ingredients you previously set aside. Slowly stir them into the sugar/molasses mixture. Once thoroughly mixed, it’s time to roll the dough into quarter-sized balls to be placed on a cookie sheet.
Before you bake the cookies roll them in sugar. Then place the dough approximately 2” apart from each other.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool and enjoy! You can even decorate with frosting and sprinkles!
**For healthier cookies, try substituting the margarine with applesauce**
