Open enrollment is here! Make sure you’re covered!
Open enrollment is in full swing! The Affordable Care Act which calls for quality, affordable health care for all Americans, requires all citizens to have healthcare. If you don’t have health insurance you may have to pay a penalty of up to 2.5% of your income, so make sure you’re covered! The last day to enroll in the program is January 31st, 2016. When choosing a plan, consider these tips and make sure you’ve got your health covered!
Health Insurance Marketplace.
If you don’t already have health insurance through either your job, Medicare, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, you may qualify for coverage under the Affordable Care Act’s Marketplace. The Marketplace assists you in getting coverage as long as you are a US citizen living in the United States and aren’t incarcerated. Check out your state’s site, like California’s Covered California for more information.
Pick the best plan for your needs.
Before you decide on your plan, make sure it suits all your needs. Compare different plans so you can make an informed decision. Low-cost insurance may be attractive, but consider when it covers and how you use your insurance. While you may be paying a lower monthly premium, you may be paying higher copays and prescription costs.
Evaluate your life changes.
Check to see if your current insurance covers your present lifestyle. Maybe you had a baby or got divorced. Look into adding or removing people from your plan. If your plan doesn’t fit your current lifestyle, see if you can make amendments to your plan.
