Protection for your home begins at the top.
Most homeowners figure that they need a new roof when they spot a leak in the ceiling. We all know that, at some point, we will have to invest in a new roof. The question is, when exactly is the perfect time to take on serious roofing repairs? Replacing the roof too soon or too late could seriously cost you!
Homeowners, fear not! Read on the top signs that it is time for a roof replacement.
Many roofs come with a 20-year warranty. In turn, if your roof is past the two decades mark, it’s time to start considering a new roof shortly – before it experiences damage.
#2: Missing shingles
Check to see if all of the roof’s shingles are intact. Storms and high winds cause many homes lose these tabs, resulting in less protection. You’ll want to replace them as soon as possible.
#3: Dark spots
Dark spots on a roof indicate granule loss. When the granules are missing, portions of the shingle will appear darker than other areas that are still coated with granules. If you sport dark patches on your roof, it’s time to give the roofer a call.
If your home is experiencing leaks, you’ll know as soon as you step onto your roof and notice a spongy feel. The underlying decking will be weakened from moisture. Check your attic to see if there are any leaks, and call the roofer asap!
If there are areas of your roof that have begun to curl and buckle, it means that the roof has (likely) exceeded the life expectancy. Often the parts of a roof that experience the most curling and buckling are the areas exposed to the elements.
