6 Ways to Keep Your High-Mileage Vehicle Going Strong

    By Young Insurance | Archives, Auto | Comments are Closed | 4 October, 2018 | 0

Tips to help you make your car last many more miles.

Some drivers have great luck with keeping their vehicles free from trouble for many years – even decades. Others don’t even make it past 50,000 miles without major problems. Although the longevity of your vehicle can depend on what type it is, driving and maintenance habits are incredibly influential. If you want to get most of your vehicle with high mileage, check out these tips.
Check the oil often. It’s recommended that the engine oil gets checked every 3,000 miles, but an older vehicle may burn oil quicker. Be on the safe side and check it every 1,500 miles and renew it when necessary.
Service it regularly. It’s best not to let tune-ups slip by like when the car was newer. It’s important that your vehicle has regular servicing to stay in tip-top condition.
Listen carefully to the engine. When a car reaches 50,000 or 60,000 miles, it’s no longer new. You may notice small noises and oddities. If there is anything of particular concern, take your vehicle to the shop sooner rather than later.
Allow the engine to get hot. This helps to flush out any contaminants, such as fuel and moisture from the motor oil. Drive at freeway speeds for at least 30 minutes once a month to allow the engine to get hot.
Replace the belt. If your vehicle has a timing belt, it’s recommended to replace it when your mileage reaches 60,000. A stretched timing belt affects engine performance, and a broken belt could leave you stranded with costly repairs.
Drive carefully. Habits like speeding, hard braking, and jackrabbit starts put a lot of strain on the engine. If you drive your car easier, it’s likely that it will last you longer.
Secure reliable auto insurance to protect your car from the worst. Talk to the team at Young Insurance to find out how to get affordable and quality auto insurance.
